Co-written and co-produced by Bai Yu and starring Andy Lau, this crime-action thriller premiered in October 2024, hitting theaters across China, Asia, and the U.S. It stands as the first hijack film ever made in China.
When ruthless hijackers seize control of an A380, taking his wife and blind daughter hostage, international security expert Gao Haojun faces the ultimate test. With time running out at 30,000 feet, he must unleash his deadly skills to outsmart the hijackers and save his family in a battle where every move counts—and failure is not an option.
Day of Redemption
A thrilling business-themed romantic drama film directed by Lawrence Ah-Mon and starring Vic Chou Yao Tong, Yunjin Cao, and Yu Bai. The film was co-financed by Gehua Cultural Development Group, Beijing's cable company, and Palette Pictures. China's CCTV, that broadcasts to about 1 billion people, rated Day of Redemption "intense", and "delighting"

An iQIYI online streaming series co-written and co-directed by Bai Yu and produced by Palette Pictures, achieved remarkable success, ranking in the top 3 for viewership across all streaming series for four consecutive weeks after its release. As the first spy-thriller set in modern China, it garnered attention from Variety, which praised it as “representing something of a genre stretch for Chinese content.”
Before her cosmetic surgery, Zhong Li was a struggling waitress at an upscale club, dreaming of the glamorous life she could never afford. But when the medical gauze is removed, she’s shocked to see a completely different face staring back at her—a perfect replica of Lou Xiaoqian, China’s #1 superstar. However, her newfound identity quickly spirals into terror when she uncovers the truth: Lou was a spy, and now Zhong Li has unknowingly stepped into her dangerous world. A 14-episode documentary series commissioned by CCTV, was directed by Bai Yu and produced by Palette Pictures in collaboration with three-time Oscar-winning director Mark Harris as co-producer. Filmed across six cities in America, the series explores the diverse challenges faced by Chinese overseas students and entrepreneurs navigating life and opportunities in the United States.

In 2019, with the beginning of the pandemic, Palette Pictures has started a channel called Fit Foodie Baiyu, producing healthy lifestyle social media content, a traveling series named Walk With Me, about pursuing a slow-paced, soothing lifestyle by sharing her travel stories around rural villages and foreign cities, as well as a cooking series known as Keto Foodie, about making keto diet based videos. Introducing at-home, healthy lifestyle recipes to the audience.

The Awakened — Novel
2018 represented Bai Yu’s foray into fiction writing. She co-authored sci-fi novel, THE AWAKENED (《觉醒》) won the best novel award at the Water Droplet Awards (水滴奖), which was co-presented by Tencent and the China Science Writers Association.

About Yu Bai
Yu Bai is an actress-turned-writer, director, and producer holding an MFA degree in Producing from the California Institute of the Arts. As the founder of Palette Pictures, a company that focuses on film and television productions as well as social media content marketing, Yu Bai is focused on collaborating with U.S. filmmakers to develop and produce Hollywood-style genre films and high quality TV series for Chinese audience with international appeal. Projects she created, directed, or produced include recent theatrical release High Forces, starring Andy Lau, which she co-wrote and co-produced; Oceans Away, a 14-episode CCTV News documentary series focusing on the full spectrum of lives of Chinese overseas students and entrepreneurs, in collaboration with three-time Oscar-winning director Mark Harris; the feature film Day of Redemption, and the iQIYI TV series The Substitute. Variety described the show as one that “represents something of a genre stretch for Chinese content.” She has also produced over 50 short films, winning various short film awards in China, including a Best Picture Award at the Beijing International Short Film Festival in 2014. Her foray into fiction writing, the sci-fi novel The Awakened (觉醒), won first place in the full-length novel category at the 2018 Water Droplet Awards (水滴奖), co-presented by Tencent and the China Science Writers Association; a high-concept action film Crisis Route also known as High Forces, which she co-written and co-produced, will be released globally in September 30, 2024. Since the pandemic, she has produced more than 200 wellness travel videos and launched her WeChat channel 白羽的幸福小站 (fit foodie baiyu), sharing with the audience the mind-soothing nature and rural villages she found during my travels. She is on a mission to use my filmmaking experience to help people struggling with burnout learn a healthy lifestyle so they can be their best selves, feeling energized, confident, and sexy again.
